A retired computer scientist - both professional and academic - but don't let that put you off.
I am still keen on learning and achieving something every day (if that's about you, so much the better); so, YouTube rather than game shows. But I'm adaptable.
For mutual enjoyment, satisfaction, companionship and support. And, when all else fails, someone with whom to do nothing.
Recently discovered the 'Lit&Phil' (also on-line): The Literary and Philosophical Society of Newcastle Upon Tyne.
One of my features is prosopagnosia (face blindness), so were we to meet, you would have to tell me what you'd be wearing.
Missing equatorial climes, and flying (PPL) (I lectured in Papua New Guinea, Swaziland, and Zimbabwe). Now I've downsized, but there still seems to be flat and car maintenance to do. Not adverse to a warm footpath walk.
A man (aka person, we must say now-a days [levity]) is 3 men: what he think he is, what you think he is, and what he really is: take your choice.
Currently: learning new information, zero hours invigilating, Ubuntu Touch (ridding mobile phone of Google bloatware and tracking), trying to maintain minimal French, dancing, writing small websites, laptop electronics: as these seem to be my occupations recently, but needs a purpose or need for it. I do the inevitable shift in a local charity shop. I have 'zero hours' exam invigilating jobs.
Age is 'just a number', it is said. Everything still works: no medication (to the amazement of Covid injection nurses!), nothing fallen off, two cataracts done, own teeth and hair; so that, I - like you - do not need any 'looking after': we have family for that if unavoidable.
Pictures taken within a year or so; the indoor ones are in the shop (Swazi emblems, worn for a specific purpose), or my abandoning bell ringing, or in my workroom. At the moment, only the one is 'suitable as a profile picture' but was taken around 2020 while on a footpath walk.

It much better to meet in person rather than I rely solely on the written word (I speak from experience). But before that, let me try:
Tactile, romantic, practical. Proactive rather than reactive; likes a quiet life but needs stimulation and exploration. Be the (unconscious) catalyst I seem to need. Expects mutual respect. A partnership: I bring stuff, you bring stuff. Some interests in common, and others different so we'd both learn new things.
Distance can be a problem: depends on the relationship and it seems counterproductive to discount this initially: we might be missing something super! I'd be prepared to travel as I'm 'more of a ship than a port'.
But then, like Art, I don't know what I like until I see it! So my criteria might change.
ps. I'm still investigating how best to operate this site. In my professional (management) life I progressed matters as promptly as possible; so any seemingly rapid response is no indication of desperation, neediness, or whatever the current slang is :-). But as Macbeth said, The firstlings of my heart shall be the firstlings of my hand'. At the moment, my plan is to message and see what response (if any) there is.
YB Yeates wrote that there is nothing: that is why old men are mad. Perhaps you could convince me otherwise?
